Commemorative Pin Badges
April 15, 2025
To mark the 80th anniversary of Jersey’s Liberation, a limited edition Liberation 80 enamel pin badge is now available to purchase from the Town Hall and will be available from other Parish Halls after the Easter weekend, from Tuesday 22 April onwards.
Each parish will have a limited number of badges, which are being sold for £2 each, with all proceeds donated to Age Concern Jersey.
The badge has been created as a commemorative keepsake for Islanders wishing to mark this significant anniversary. By purchasing a badge, members of the public can both show their support for Liberation 80 and contribute to a local charity that provides vital support to the Island’s older community.
The official Liberation 80 logo, used on the badges, is based on one which was first created in 2020 and is inspired by the first-hand account of Islander, Enid de Gruchy, who was born on 28 February 1941 and sadly passed away last year. It was felt to be fitting to keep the legacy of her story alive in this year’s logo. Enid was four when Jersey was liberated and is alive and well today. She recalls going into St. Helier on Liberation Day with her family and a soldier giving her, her first ever sweet. A few weeks later when food packages were imported into the Island, she was given an orange. She remembered this clearly because it was the first orange she had ever seen, and she didn’t know what to do with it. The colour palette used for this iteration of the logo reflects ‘oak’ which is the material used to represent the 80th anniversary.
Badges are available on a first-come, first-served basis while stocks last. Finally, badges will be issued to all primary school children, kindly supported by Butterfield Bank.
